Govt to directly transfer payments to banks
Kathmandu, February 23
Government offices located in Singhadurbar premises will not issue cheques to make payments to any firm, company or organisation from Sunday. The Treasury Controller Office will directly transfer the payment to the bank account of the concerned party based on the payment order issued by the ministries and agencies.
The Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO) has initiated this programme from the government offices in Singhadurbar, which is the country’s administrative hub, as a pilot phase.
FCGO has been providing training to the human resources and is equipping government offices with the required technologies to expand the service to 5,000 government offices across the country. Government’s payment is issued only from the Treasury Controller Office based on the payment order of the government agencies.
Kewal Prasad Bhandari, joint financial comptroller general, said that this system will reduce the time to make payments. It takes at least five days to issue a cheque from the Treasury Controller Office following the payment order of any government agency.
After the new payment system comes into effect it will take just a day to transfer the payment to the concerned party’s bank account. Any payment of above Rs 25,000 will be transferred to the bank account of the concerned firm, company or organisation.
