Govt staffers stir affects revenue collection
BIRGUNJ: The govrenment is having to bear the loss of millions of rupees as work in Birgunj customs office is disrupted since four days due to strike in the office.
Work in the office ground to a halt after the employees joined the protest launched by various government employees’ organizations demanding action against State Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives Kareema Begum who manhandled Parsa’s CDO. The agitating government employees have announced that offices will not open until the government takes action against the minister for attacking CDO Durga Prasad Bhandari. The minister had attacked CDO Bhandari sometime ago for allegedly failing to send a swanky vehicle for her.
The exchequer has to bear Rs 150 million loss if the customs office closes for two days, said Birgunj customs office chief Kewal Prasad Bhandari. Goods imported from India and other countries are standed in Raxaul of India due to strike in the office. Also, goods for export to various countries through this border point are stuck in Birgunj.
