KATHMANDU, APRIL 7

The 17th Fewa New Year Festival is being organised under the slogan 'Tourism, Culture and Food' on April 13 and 14 in Pokhara.

Organised by Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) Pokhara, the festival is being held with an aim to preserve the Nepali culture and promote Nepali cuisine in the area stretching three km from Fishtail Gate to Hallanchowk.

According to Chairman of HAN, Pokhara Laxman Subedi, the festival will assist in reviving the COVID-battered tourism sector of Nepal.

The festival is being hosted in a bid to celebrate the Nepali New Year with flair on the open streets.

HAN Pokhara Chairman Subedi believed that the festival would provide some relief to the tourism sector which was facing difficulties due adversities like the devastating earthquakes, border blockade, India's demonetisation drive and high interest rate of the banks.

Binayak Shah, acting president of HAN, said that these types of festivals would have a positive impact on the international community, encourage foreigners to visit Nepal and disseminate positive message that Nepal is a safe destination to visit.

Recalling that the domestic air traffic grew in Pokhara after HAN organised various touristic events, Shah said that the completion of the international airport in Pokhara would also play a pivotal role in boosting the tourism activities in Pokhara.
