Homemade product exhibition begins in Valley

KATHMANDU: An exhibition of various homemade products produced by domestic workers from the earthquake-affected districts of Nepal started in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

This exhibition being held at the Orchid Hotel in Tripureshwor will last till Friday.

The HomeNet Nepal, a social organisation, is organising the event featuring products made up of metals and woods, hosiery, dolls, crystals, as well as allo bags and jackets.

Minister for Industry Nabindra Raj Joshi inaugurated the exhibition while appreciating the efforts of domestic workers.

At the programme, former Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Rabindra Kumar Shakya, stated that these products could create positive effects in their economy by increasing their income level.

He further emphasised that such production should be initiated in other districts of Nepal as well.

The HomeNet Nepal Executive Director Om Thapaliya said that the participating domestic workers were given a professional training before they organised this exhibition to raise their standard of life.

The organisation had provided the professional training to around 1,000 workers. They were also provided with the machines needed for the production and Rs 15,000 grant to begin the business.
