KATHMANDU, JANUARY 11

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) continued to decline on Thursday as the index slipped by 0.62 points or 0.03%, settling at 2,088.99 points by the close of the trading day. This downturn follows after the index gained just 9.50 points on Wednesday.

The intra-day turnover, which stood at Rs 5.134 billion on Wednesday, experienced a further dip to Rs 4.307 billion. This was the result of the exchange of 22,132,768 units of shares from 307 companies, involving 79,389 transactions.

In tandem with the decline in the benchmark index and daily turnover, the sensitive index, evaluating the performance of class 'A' stocks, saw a 0.56% decrease. Conversely, the float index, assessing the performance of actively traded shares, edged up by 0.02%.

The market exhibited a predominantly negative trend today, with only four sub-indices recording gains, led by hydropower with a 1.56% increase.

Meanwhile, the life insurance index lost the most with 1.04 percent followed by the Hotels and Tourism index with 1.00% decline.

Today, the scrips of 121 companies advanced while 117 declined and nine remained unchanged. Despite the overall market turbulence, six companies - Nirdhan Utthan Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (NUBL), Samaj Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (SAMAJ), Mid Solu Hydropower Limited (MSHL), Trishuli Jal Vidyut Company Limited (TVCL), Muktinath Krishi Company Limited (MKCL), and Nepal Warehousing Company Limited (NWCL) - encountered a positive circuit break of 10%.

The total market capitalization on Thursday stood at Rs 3.281 trillion.
