IPPAN appeals

KATHMANDU: Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) has appealed all local governments not to impose any new taxes on hydropower.

Referring to a recent letter sent by Sailung Rural Municipality of Dolakha to Nepal Hydro-Developer Ltd (the promoter of Charnawati Khola Hydropower Project) seeking Rs one million as hydropower tax, IPPAN has urged local governments not to impose such taxes until applicable hydropower taxes and collecting authority is clearly defined under the new federal system.

Releasing a press statement on Monday, IPPAN stated that developers of hydropower projects have already been paying hydropower taxes and royalties to the government as required by the existing laws.
