India waves duty

KATHMANDU: Altogether 111 categories of goods manufactured in Nepal have been exempted from the four per cent additional customs duty levied on their import to India. The exemptions will be effective from January 25, 2007, informed officials at the Indian embassy in Kathmandu today. This is the second instalment of goods that have earned a customs waiver. In August 2006, 76 Nepali items had been granted exemption of the four per cent import duty. “With this notification, all Nepali products for which the government of Nepal had requested for such a waiver and provided the requisite information, have been covered,” claimed a press release issued by the embassy.
