Indian oil import rises to $43b

NEW DELHI: India’s crude import bill rose to $43.84 billion in 2005-06, an increase of 46.8 per cent over the previous year with volatile global prices scaling over $70 per barrel. The crude imports rose 3.7 per cent to reach 99.41 million tonnes, while those of petroleum products jumped 29.2 per cent to 11.48 million tonnes from 8.89 million tonnes in the previous year.
