Land acquisition rows may block govt from no load shedding goal

KATHMANDU: At a time the government has declared that the power outage would be ended within a year, the construction of transmission lines seems to be a stumbling block toward the end.

A total of 48 under-construction transmission lines to be constructed with the support of the government, Nepal Electricity Authority and donor agencies are facing problems to acquire lands and satisfy landlords with the compensation.

The construction works on the projects have not moved ahead due to the issues.

The transmission line of Khimti Corridor has been facing the problem of land acquisition for the past 10 years.

Similarly, land expropriation dispute has surfaced in the Sindhuli section of the Khimti-Dhalkebar transmission line expansion project and it has not been resolved yet.
