Mahavir plans tourism development

Myagdi, August 12:

Mahavir Pun — a proud receipent of prestigious Magsaysay Award for linking remote Himalayan villages of Myagdi district with e-mail and internet through wireless computer phone — has started a new campaign to develop tourism in Myagdi.

Pun, who is also called ‘Akkale’ in Nagi village by the villagers for his innovative ideas, has started construction of a modern 100-room hotel at a cost of two million rupees in Khopra Lek at the Annapurna Base Camp.

Pun was also awarded with the Overall Social Innovation Award by the Global Idea Bank of Britain in 2004. The hotel is being constructed in a joint investment of Himanchal Higher Secondary School, Nagi, Paudwar Secondary School, Paudwar and Perigreen Trekking, Kathmandu. The Paudwar Secondary School has contributed Rs 60,000 and Himanchal Higher Secondary School Rs 70,000 worth of voluntary labour.
