Migrants can soon avail re-entry permit online

Kathmandu, October 24

The government is preparing to provide online re-entry service for migrant workers soon. The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS) has said it will soon launch the online system for those migrants who are interested to go to foreign destinations repeatedly for employment.

“The online re-entry service will be operational by the end of this month and once it is implemented foreign job aspirants will not have to visit labour offices to avail the re-entry permit,” said Gokarna Bista, minister for labour, employment and social security, adding that the ministry is in the final stage of implementing the system.

Once the system starts functioning, the migrant workers can apply for the re-entry permit online and will be able to get approval for their re-entry from a concerned official at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

Earlier, the government had proposed to allow Nepali diplomatic missions in foreign lands to renew the labour re-entry permits. The proposal has already been approved by the Cabinet and included in the Foreign Employment Act.

The MoLESS is planning to table this Act in the Parliament for its final approval. After it is endorsed by the Parliament, the Nepali diplomatic missions will be able to renew the labour re-entry permits.

On September 10, the government had decided to integrate all systems and statistics related to foreign employment service in the country. The ministry had launched the Foreign Employment Information Management System (FEIMS) on October 2.

According to MoLESS, the system will have a software, which can be accessed by all concerned with foreign employment services, including MoLESS, manpower companies, line offices under MoLESS, orientation centres, Department of Passport, Department of Immigration, Department of Consular Services, various government agencies, diplomatic missions and Nepali embassies abroad.

However, access to system will be limited as per requirement of the concerned entity.

The ministry has mentioned the system will include information related to the visa approval process and details of manpower agencies. Moreover, it will also include

information regarding salaries to be given to the migrant workers, and details of employers and

migrants, according to MoLESS.
