Minister for single trade union at NT

Kathmandu, March 19

Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki has urged the various trade unions that have been formed at Nepal Telecom (NT) to establish a single authorised trade union representing all the NT employees.

Speaking at a programme organised to mark the unification of National Employees Organisation of Nepal (NEON) and Nepal National Employees Organisation (NNEO) of Nepal Telecom, Karki said that employees of Nepal Telecom should opt for a single authorised trade union for the benefit of both the company and its staffs.

“NT is a reputed government organisation in the country and has also gathered huge public trust. Thus, it is the responsibility of NT employees to maintain the legacy of the company and take the company to a newer height,” Karki said.

Meanwhile, Minister Karki also urged Nepal Telecom to make investments in different potential sectors like universities and aviation.

“NT is financially strong today. To make the company stronger, NT should step into other business ventures as well,” he added.

On the occasion, Kamini Rajbhandari, managing director of NT, stressed on the need for a collaborative effort

between NT management and trade unions for substantial growth of the company.

After the unification of NEON and NNEO, the new trade union will be named as Nepal National Employees Organisation, Nepal Telecom (NNEONT).

There are now four trade unions that are affiliated to different political parties at Nepal Telecom.
