Mushroom farming helps rural women

Sarlahi, March 2 :

Economic condition of some women at Dhungrekhola Village Development Committee (VDC) in Sarlahi district has improved after adopting mushroom farming. They have been able to support their families selling mushrooms. “Earlier, my family’s economic condition was miserable. Since I started to spend my leisure time on mushroom farming, I have been able to earn around Rs 5,000 monthly after selling the products,” said Kamala Bishwokarma, a local resident at Dhungrekhola VDC ward number-3.

Dozens of women of the VDC have taken training on mushroom farming under the initiation of Sarlahi district-based Rural Volunteers’ Society some months ago. The training was organised under the financial support of Chure Management Project, Mahottari.

Most of the women, who were involved in the training, have been able to adopt mushroom farming.
