KATHMANDU, MAY 22

The Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Confederation of Nepali Industries, Nepal Freight Forwarders Association and Nepal Truck Transport Traders Federation have held discussions with NADA Automobile Association of Nepal to bring 1,950 automobiles, including jeeps and vans, from Birgunj dry port and check posts to Chobhar dry port.

Stating that only a couple of vehicles are utilising the services being provided from the Chobhar dry port, stakeholders have stressed on the need for the cooperation and support of the private sector to operate the dry port at full capacity.

According to Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Board, the legal arrangements have been made to bring the 1,950 vehicles from Birgunj to Chobhar dry port.

A request was also made to bring the vehicles imported from abroad directly to Chobhar dry port from Birgunj. In this context, it has been informed that the letter of credit for the import of vehicles will be provided from the Chobhar dry port along with the inspection of vehicles.

During the meeting, it was also agreed that NADA will request all businessmen to take vehicle inspections from Chobhar dry port.

There are currently five dry ports and unified check posts being operated between Nepal and India, including one each in Biratnagar, Bhairahawa and Kakadivatta, and two in Birgunj.

Between Nepal and China, there is one dry port in Tatopani of Sindupalchowk district.
