KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 30

Drivers can now digitally present their driver's licence via the Nagarik App on their mobile phones during traffic checks.

In a public notice, the Nagarik App announced that Nepali citizens will now have the option to display their driver's licence via the app during routine traffic checks, provided they are not in violation of any traffic rules.

The notification stated, "Driver's licences registered on the Nagarik App are henceforth officially recognised during inspections nationwide."

It emphasised that when a driver presents their licence via the app, it serves solely as a means to verify their licence status.

However, it's important to note that in cases involving traffic rule violations and the subsequent enforcement process, physical presentation of the driver's licence remains mandatory.

While the government has faced criticism regarding the implementation of the app, this new feature represents a positive step forward by allowing citizens to access their licence details through the Nagarik app during routine traffic checks.
