KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 9

Ncell has begun distributing SIM cards with mobile numbers starting with the new 971 range, following government approval to expand its numbering capacity.

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) authorized the new range on May 28, 2025, after Ncell exhausted previously assigned ranges-980, 981, 982 and 970.

"We are thankful to NTA for approving this new range. With mobile use expanding into digital payments and essential services, the 971 series will support growing customer needs," said Upanga Dutta, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Ncell.

Ncell has requested government agencies, banks, financial institutions and service providers to update their systems to accommodate the new range, ensuring uninterrupted services such as OTP delivery, app registration and digital transactions.
