The Nepal government, Confederation of Banks and Financial Institutions Nepal (CBFIN) and Nepal Business Institute (NBI) are jointly organising Nepal Business Summit 2023.
The summit being organised with a slogan 'Present Economic Scenario and Roadmap for Prosperity', CB- FIN and NBI have reached an agreement to hold significant policy dialogues and exhibition focusing on the banking and economic sectors at the summit, which is scheduled to take place in January and Feb-ruary at the federal and provincial levels, respectively.
The agreement was signed by Bhoj Bahadur Shah, senior vice-president and spokesperson for CBFIN, and Bishal Gaire, executive chairperson of NBI, at the CBFIN Secretariat in Sundhara on Tuesday, as the first step in making the summit a grand success.
According to the organisers, the summit aims to protect large industries, encourage small, medium, and start-up businesses, increase investment in exports, employment, and productive sectors by identifying new investment opportunities, attract more investment by addressing the policy and behavioural hurdles faced by entrepreneurs, promote exports, and so on. Through joint collaboration and financial support, it also seeks to facilitate in the development of a self-reliant economy.
The summit will result in increment in domestic production, consumption trend of people, and export promotion along with improvement in employment opportunities, said Shah.
"Moreover investment will flow through the identification of potential investment sectors; youths will be encouraged; and more women will be attracted towards entrepreneurship; cottage, small, and medium-sized enterprises will be upgraded; banks and financial institutions will be encouraged to invest more with the issues identified properly with solutions at the local level and national level."
In addition, it is expected that the summit will facilitate extensive networking between the three layers of the government.
According to the organisers, high-level officials from the government and private sector representatives, leaders of major political parties, heads and deputy heads of all municipalities, and university students will take part in the policy dialogues at the provincial level.
The exhibition will showcase local products, which will help in promoting indigenous products and encourage consumption and export of Nepali products.
Moreover, a policy dialogue will also be held at federal level during the closing session, with participation of senior officials from the government and its related agencies, senior political leaders, experts, and high-ranking officials from the donor community.
Meanwhile, a national-level article writing competition will be held for journalists from across the nation on the topic 'Challenges and roadmap to prosperity in the banking sector and economy as a whole'.
The top 25 articles will receive cash prizes and letters of appreciation, and successful entrepreneurs, taxpayers, banks, and financial institutions will also be honoured during the summit.
A vision document about the main challenges, opportunities, and future roadmap of the economic and banking sector after COVID-19 will be prepared and submitted to the government and its related bodies along with solutions within 45 days of conducting the summit.
