Language training and computer education in Nepal have been steadily growing. Universal Language and Computer Institute (ULCI) has been assisting students to attain educational and career goals efficiently as well as quickly with the aid of the latest technological advances, says Uttam Prasad Pant, principal at ULCI.

Established in 1984, ULCI is the only institute in Nepal to be certified with ISO 9001:2000 certificates. It provides language and computer trainings, test preparation courses and overseas study counselling services. The institute has so far provided these trainings and services to more than 36,000 students during the last 21 years. “Professional teaching and training faculty along with modern technical support is one the best parts of ULCI. Quality has

always been our top concern,” adds Pant.

During the course of 21 years, ULCI has expanded its wings to Kumaripati and Pokhara from its base at Putalisadak.

English and Japanese languages are being taught at ULCI as per the requirement of students and level of proficiency. In computer training, it provides locally designed short-term professional courses and plans to run certified courses soon. “Partnering with Microsoft to be its Certified Partner Learning Solutions is at its final stage,” says Keshav Thapaliya, IT manager, ULCI.

In test preparation courses, ULCI provides guidelines on TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, GMAT and SAT for those students trying their luck for higher studies abroad.

ULCI has a separate wing for study abroad counselling, through which aspirant students can acquire information to study in different nations. UK, USA and Australia have become favourite study abroad destinations for Nepali students. However, Canada, Ireland and lately Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand have also emerged as attractive destinations, says Indra Limbu, counsellor at ULCI.

Besides its training courses and services, the institute is promoting a new product — Club-ULCI, which is a student service oriented club, providing assistance to ULCI students and alumni.

Lord Buddha Education Foundation

Today’s world has transformed into a world of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and charm of computer education has never been dull. Lord Buddha Education Foundation (LBEF), a leading IT college and training institute, has been pioneering in providing both academic and short-term courses.

LBEF is the first to introduce BCA and MCA courses in Nepal with affiliation of Sikkim Manipal University and now the number of courses have been expanded to about 22 ranging for Bachelor’s, Master’s and Post Graduate Diplomas, says Prakash Kumar, director at LBEF.

The foundation is also an accredited study centre in Nepal for MCRP University, Bhopal. During the fair, LBEF is promoting courses on BSc Biotech, MSc Bio-Informatics and MBA-IT. “IT has a huge prospect for a country like Nepal,” he adds.

Since IT-enabled courses are gaining popularity around the globe and are high on demand, LBEF felt its the right time to bring such courses to Nepal, he said. At present, 394 students are studying at various levels at different LBEF colleges in Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Birgunj and Janakpur. LBEF provides education through both regular and distance learning mode.

LBEF is also introducing PG diploma in pharmaceutical sales management for new medical

representatives.

Chartered Academics International

Demand for competent and skilled professionals in the fie-lds of accounting, banking, taxation, auditing and fina-nce is ever growing. The Ch-artered Accountancy (CA) profession holds a prominent position and plays a vital role in allied areas.

CA is a challenging career at the cutting edge of trade, industry and economic growth, says Hari Kumar Silwal, principal of Chartered Academics International (CAI), which has been providing education and academic facilities for CA courses in Nepal since 1996.

CAI is the first institution promoted and managed by a group of CAs, affiliated to the Institute of Chartered Accounts of Nepal (ICAN). It also runs classes for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). ICAN and ICAI are apex bodies with sole responsibilities to regulate and develop the accounting profession in respective countries. “CA study is very challenging but has a very high job prospect,” he says. Despite its glorious position and high demand, the number of Chartered Accountants is only about 270 in Nepal.

Apart from CA preparation courses, CAI provides tailor-made professional training and education in the fields of accounting, auditing, finance, income tax, VAT, banking and allied areas. It has already developed 18 different training modules suitable for Nepali taxation and finance policies.

Budhanilkantha International Academy

Newly-established Budhanilkantha International Academy (BIA) plans to promote various courses and services. BIA currently runs tutorial classes of Cambridge GCE Examination ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels and bridge course for SLC graduate students, says Sher Bahadur Pandey, vice-principal, BIA. “BIA also plans to start entrance exam preparation classes for medical and engineering as well as staff nurses. Test preparation classes for IELTS, TOEFL, GRE and SAT are also among the future plan.”

The academy has designed a mini secretarial course, targeting fresh graduate girl students, which will provide basic knowledge for secretarial work. “This two-month long course is tailor-made to meet the pre-requisite of secretaries and assistants,” he said.

BIA is also promoting an office executive motivation course, which is designed for male office executives.
