Neps halts dollar card service

KATHMANDU: Nepal Electronic Payment System, the common electronic payment platform of 18 commercial and development banks, has halted the use of dollar card transactions.

Earlier, Neps had also halted inter-banking transaction through ATMs within its network. Stating that investigation into the banking heist was ongoing, Chief Executive Officer of Neps Prabin Prakash Chhetri said dollar card service had been temporarily halted in its network and other networks too.

That means anybody who has a dollar card issued by banks, including Prabhu, Machhapuchchhre, Siddhartha, NIC Asia, Prime, Global IME, Sunrise, Janata, Citizens, Bank of Kathmandu, Nepal Bangladesh, Deva Bikas, Om Development, Shangrila Development, Lumbini Development, Jyoti Bikas, Shine Resunga Development and Excel Development Bank, will not be able to use their dollar card until the forensic report is finalised. Moreover, Neps has asked ATM card users within its network to use ATM cards only at their respective banks.
