Nepal, Korea hold meeting

Kathmandu, October 22:

Senior foreign ministry officials of Nepal and South Korea today held a consultation meeting in Kathmandu to discuss on matters of bilateral relations as well as matters relating to regional and international issues.

Hira Bahadur Thapa, joint secretary at the ministry of foreign affairs (MoFA) led the Nepali delegation, while the Korean team was headed by Cho Baek-Sang, acting director general of the Asia Pacific Bureau in the Korean ministry of foreign affairs and trade. This is the third consultation meeting after the establishment of bilateral consultation mechanism between Nepal and South Korea on October 5, 2001. The consultation mechanism was set up to enhance bilateral cooperation and exchanges between the two countries in order to further promote the development activities.

During the meeting, matters related to South Korea’s support in the socio-economic development of Nepal were discussed. The possibilities for future cooperation and areas of assistance were also discussed, according to MoFA’s statement. South Korea has been supporting Nepal in building infrastructure as well as socio-economic development. The earlier two meetings were held in Seoul in 2002 and 2003 respectively. Park Sang-Hoon, South Korean ambassador to Nepal was also present on the occasion.
