Nepal pasture for foreign investors

KATHMANDU: Malaysian investors are interested

in Nepal.

At a meeting held by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Malaysia-Nepal Business Council (MNBC), the possibility of Malaysian investment in Nepal was discussed. MNBC is here to study the economic and commercial prospects here. MNBC has agreed to support the cause but Nepal needs to work on promoting its business prospects.

Malaysia sees Nepal as a politically unstable country because of broadcasts about strikes and demonstrations. Therefore, MNBC has suggested that if possibilities of tourism, investments and Nepal’s successes in trade are publicized over there Nepal-Malaysia economic relations can be extended.

MNBC is in Nepal at the invitation of FNCCI president Kush Kumar Joshi, who visited Malaysia last November. During his visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between FNCCI and Malaysia’s Chamber of Commerce to expand economic relations between the two countries.

MNBC’s deputy mission leader Datuk Pradip Kumar Kukreja said, “The meetings with Nepal’s Prime Minister and ministers about the expansion of bilateral economic relations and investment promotion were important. However, this can only be achieved if there is joint action by both the countries’ private sectors.”
