NT authorised to expand optical fibre network to mid-hill zone

KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecom (NT) has got an authority to expand the optical fibre network to 32 districts along the Mid-Hill (Pushpalal) Highway.

Digambhar Jha, Chairman of the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, and NT Managing Director Kamini Rajbhandari signed the agreement to this effect today in the presence of Information and Communications Secretary Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya.

According to the agreement that would be in effect for the next two years, the state-owned telecommunications company would install 2,376 km high-speed optical fibre in theĀ area stretching from Chiwabhanjyang of Panchthar to Salyantar of Dhading.

On the occasion, Secretary Thapaliya expressed his belief that the agreement would prove to be a milestone in the development of broadband networks in the country.
