Nepali cuisine to be promoted globally

KATHMANDU: Hoteliers have started a national initiative for the globalisation of Nepali cuisine. Issuing a press statement, Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) said that a working committee comprising members from HAN, Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal, food technologists and chefs have been formed to run the initiative.

The committee is coordinated by tourism entrepreneur Karna Shakya. As per HAN, the committee will identify 20 popular cuisines from across the Tarai, Mountain and Hilly regions of the country and prepare a database of how these foods are made.

After identifying these foods of traditional and cultural importance, the committee will be responsible to promote these foods in the global market via the network of non-resident Nepalis, HAN and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.
