KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 1

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) took a significant dip on Sunday, declining by 53.63 points or 1.95%, and closed at 2,695.93 points by the end of the first trading day of the week.

The market also saw a further decline in daily turnover, recording just Rs 10.5 billion from the exchange of 26,246,435 units of shares across 337 companies in 130,632 transactions. The intraday turnover was Rs 12 billion on Thursday.

Along with the benchmark index, the sensitive index, which measures the performance of 'A' class stocks, also declined by 1.81%. The float index, which tracks actively traded shares, dropped by 2.05%.

Today's market was predominantly in the red, with the only exception being the mutual fund sector, which recorded a slight increase of 0.80%.

Meanwhile, the rest of the sectors recorded losses, with the finance sector leading the decline at 3.44%, followed by the hotels and tourism sector at 2.98%, the hydropower sector at 2.40%, the banking sector at 2.34%, the microfinance sector at 1.88%, and the development bank sector at 1.85%.

In terms of individual stock movements, 209 companies declined, 31 advanced, and four remained unchanged. Notably, Peoples Hydropower Company Limited (PHCL) and Mai Khola Hydropower Limited (MKHL) both recorded a 10% loss, while Super Mai Hydropower Limited (SMH) saw a 10% gain in its share value.

The total market capitalization stood at Rs 4.281 trillion.
