Nepse in sulky trend again

KATHMANDU: The Nepali capital market again took to a bearish trend this week, from November 13 to 19, following the track of last week. Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index was leaning towards 565.86 points last Thursday.

Between November 13 and 19, Nepse experienced a downward trend — losing 3.96 points. The trading floor opened at 566.94 points on Sunday which gradually fell to 563.01 points on Thursday. The biggest losers this week were insurance companies. Their indices dropped by 9.61 points from 602.54 points to 592.93 points. Shares of banks, hydropower sector, insurance, finance and development banks fell this week. The Nepse index of commercial banks fell by 3.79 points close on the heels of hydropower companies. Last week, the hydropower sector index went down by 13.99 points. Fall in major sectors reduced the float index size by 0.46 points.

Shares equal to Rs 268.7 million were traded this week in 4,521 transactions of 7,77,800 units. The trading amount was 13.76 per cent lower than the Rs 311.16 million of the previous week. Class ‘A’ companies trading occupied 41.39 per cent of trading, with Rs 111.2 million.

DCBL Bank ranked top in transaction amount with trading of shares equal to Rs 37.5 million. CMB Finance Ltd topped in units of shares category, with 2,22,000 units, while Vibor Development Bank was ahead in number of transactions, with 867 transactions.

Two companies — Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company Ltd and Crystal Finance Ltd — listed with Nepse this week. Nepse listed 1.715 million units of ordinary shares of Arun Valley Hydropower and 7,00,000 units of Crystal Finance. There was no transaction of organizational and government debenture this week.
