Nepse to keep data centre in its own building

Kathmandu, October 2

The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) has decided to set up its central data server within its building in Bhadrakali.

“The dispute between stockbrokers, software and hardware vendor company YCO Pvt Ltd and Nepse has been settled and a decision has been taken to set up the data centre in share market building,” said Chandra Singh Saud, chief executive officer of Nepse.

There had been concerns related to security of share market data and setting up the central server within Nepse premises is expected to launch fully-automated online trading in the country’s sole secondary bourse.

On July 3, Nepse had successfully tested User Acceptance Testing (UAT) of the software.

Nepse had initially planned to launch the fully automated electronic trading system of shares from July 17. However, it was unable to do so as neither the related software nor the infrastructure were ready. Moreover, stockbrokers also seemed less enthusiastic to initiate online trading because of lack of technical knowhow about the system.

After missing the most recent deadline to initiate fully automated trading again on September 10, the mock online share trading was finally initiated on September 18. Nepse is now gearing up to launch the service within a month-and-a-half. As per Saud, Nepse and software developers are working closely to meet the new deadline to launch the automated trading.

Currently, Nepse has outsourced its data service, but it is planning to develop its own data centre within two years.
