New industrial policy in offing

Minister for Industry Ashta Laxmi Shakya said yesterday that a new industrial policy would be drawn up and also that she would take the initiative for running the Orient Magnesite Industry soon. The minister, on an inspection visit at Lamosanghu of Sindhupalchok, said this during an interaction on establishing new industries and solutions to the industrial sector’s problems that was organised by Sindhu[palchowk Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The industry - third largest in South Asia and established with an investment of Rs 3,500 million by the Orissa Industries in 1978 on a 50-50 share basis with the then HMG of Nepal kept clsoing down frequently ever since its inception and shut down totally in 1998. Although it was producing only limestone powder, it never reached its optimum output capacity.

On hearing complaints about insufficient security on the highways, she directed the police administration to providing adequate security.
