KATHMANDU: Khairun Nisa from Surkhet was awarded Yamaha Alba Ratna yesterday. She was engaged in social works since 1996 when she started working as a health volunteer. Yamaha’s authorised distributor Morang Auto Works awarded Nisa Alba Ratna Shield and Rs 50,000, in a ceremony. She advocated the use of contraceptives in the Muslim community where such family planning devices are considered blasphemous.

Thanks to her campaigns most of the Muslim women are now using contraceptives around her area. She also campaigns against domestic violence.
