NT union urges quicker line distribution

Kathmandu, January 21:

Employees of Nepal Telecom (NT) have asked its management to distribute pre-paid cellular mobile phone and wireless CDMA phone connections as per the demand of customers.

Telecom Employees Association of Nepal (TEAN), the official trade union of the state-owned telecom service provider, has expressed its concern over the delay in distribution of pre-paid mobile phones and CDMA connections, despite NT having adequate capacity.

“It shows incompetence of the management,” said Gopal Dhakal, newly elected president of TEAN. He was speaking at a programme organised on Sunday to inform about the decisions of the sixth national convention of TEAN held on January 12 and 13, in Biratnagar. TEAN has also asked

the NT management and the government for full mobility on CDMA hand phones and make the service available throughout the country on demand basis.

Dhakal also asked concerned authorities to start disinvestment in NT by floating five per cent shares to its employees. At the time of conversion of the then Nepal Telecommunication Corporation into a limited company some three years back, the government had stated that it would allot five per cent of its shares to the employees and 10 per cent to the public.

The national convention has elected a 25-member new executive committee under the chairmanship of Gopal Dhakal. Keshav Raj Devkota and Bholanath Ghimire are vice-presidents, while Ashok Kumar Karna is the general secretary in new team.
