Orientation on agribusiness innovation programme

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Agricultural Development (MoAD) on Friday organised an orientation workshop for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs with a view to launch an Agribusiness Innovation Programme.

MoAD Secretary Uttam Kumar Bhattarai inaugurated the event organised by the Ministry's Project for Agricultural Commercialisation and Trade (PACT) in the Capital.

Speaking at the function, Secretary Bhattarai said it is imperative to introduce new technologies in Nepal's agricultural management with due research and development activities.

He said it would be useful to bring in technologies which were already proved successful abroad.

Meanwhile, PACT Director Indrakanta Jha said an Agribusiness Promotion Centre would be established to encourage commercial agriculture in the nation.

The infoDev, an institute under the World Bank Group, had provided technical support to the programme.

Three experts from the infoDev – including two foreigners – had informed the participants about new technologies adopted to promote commercial agriculture in various nations.

Around 50 agriculture stakeholders including small and medium-sized entrepreneurs had attended the workshop.
