PAC tells MoE, NEA to continue Chameliya hydel project

KATHMANDU: Public Account Committee (PAC) of the Legislature-Parliament has directed the Ministry of Energy and Nepal Electricity Authority to probe alleged irregularities in the Chameliya Hydropower Project again and continue the works.

The PAC meeting on Sunday reminded the Ministry and the NEA its earlier stand that the Hydropower's decision to allocate Rs 90 million for the variation of project tunnel was wrong.

In December last year, the PAC had directed the Ministry and the NEA not to release the amount in the name of variation as it would be financial irregularity, and not to halt construction in the name of non-release of Rs 90 million.

The NEA, however, had blamed the contractor for halting the construction works after the PAC directive.

PAC Chairman Janardan Sharma informed that it has directed the Ministry and the NEA not to halt the works in the Chameliya Hydropower Project.
