Plated ornaments find favour in eastern region

Plated ornaments, which have been famous in Kathmandu and Pokhara for the past few years, are gaining popularity in the eastern region-based markets also. “As gold prices climb, women get increasingly attracted to plated ornaments,” said a businessman Manish Kumar Shah, adding that the plated ornaments are being sold in the eastern regional markets of Biratnagar, Duhabi, Itahari, Dharan, Damak, and Birtamod among others for the past few months.
He said, “Plated ornament shops have been set up in great numbers in the eastern region. Mainly, Biratnagar-products are being supplied in the eastern region markets.” Sabitri Rijal, a housewife at Bargachhi, Biratnagar said, “It’s easy for us because we are getting ornaments at a low-price.” Women as well as girls are being lured to plated ornaments, she said.
Sita Karki of Itahari, Sunsari said, “Housewives are lured to plated ornaments owing to their low-price. Unmarried girls are also wearing such ornaments on certain occasions.” According to Dilip Kumar Ghosh, owner of Krishna Gold in Biratnagar, plated ornaments are being produced in Biratnagar nowadays. These ornaments could be prepared by plating gold on brass, he said. The price of such ornaments range from Rs 50 to Rs 1,000.
“We have to care on colouration while preparing these ornaments,” Shad said, adding, “We provide six months guarantee to costumers. In case of discolouration, we exchange the product. This is making the business very popular.”
