Poudyal to represent GABV Asia-Pacific
Kathmandu, April 26
The Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV), headquartered in Zeist, The Netherlands, has appointed Upendra Poudyal, a senior banker, as representative for its Asia-Pacific region.
Issuing a press note today, the GABV has said that Poudyal will be responsible for facilitating the activities and commitments of the Asia-Pacific Chapter and expanding the network in the region. Poudyal is currently a director of Nabil Bank and National Banking Institute Nepal.
He retired last year from the position of CEO of NMB Bank immediately after global conference of GABV in Kathmandu in March, which was held under his coordination. The conference was inaugurated and addressed by then prime minster Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Poudyal had also served as the president of Nepal Banker's Association.
After being appointed as representative for the Asia-Pacific region, Poudyal said GABV has recognised his full commitment to the principles of the GABV and strongly feels that these principles will help ensure that banking is a healthy and productive system of the society.
He added that only by changing finance are we able to finance change. Poudyal also expressed his belief that banking system in Nepal needs to embrace value-based sustainable banking ‘so that we focus chiefly in supporting real sector of economy, which is crucial for development of the country'.
The GABV member banks are deeply connected to people and communities. Its focus on inclusion puts basic banking products in service of a greater number of people, rather than highly sophisticated products in the hands of a few. It has a triple bottom-line approach at the heart of the business models focusing on people, planet and prosperity.
