PM emphasises need to make capital base through remittance
Kathmandu, September 6
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal today stressed on the need to take ‘awakened and relevant’ initiatives to make a capital base through remittance.
Inaugurating a programme held to mark the silver jubilee of Nepal Economic Association in the Capital, he emphasised proper use of remittance in creating sustainable investment opportunities in productive areas of the country.
Saying that it was high time remittance was properly utilised in productive areas, he said, “Remittance is helping Nepal’s economy sustain. However, there has been a slowdown in remittance growth lately as the demand for Nepali labour is decreasing in foreign countries.”
Thus, taking remittance as a sustainable source of income for the country is questionable, he said.
Saying economists could focus on how to employ youth’s labour, skills and talents in generating capital, the prime minister expressed hope that intellectuals and economists would formulate a practical and meaningful plan to adopt necessary steps for the economic development of the country.
