Private sector to frame strategy to tackle extortions
Kathmandu, September 16 :
Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) is organising its national assembly to frame a future strategy to tackle increased incidents of extortions and insecurity as well as urge government to take practical measures on bad loan recovery.
The national assembly, which is scheduled for September 18 in Birgunj, will br-ing together representatives of all the chambers of commerce under FNCCI throu-ghout the country. The private sector will thoroughly discuss on current problems — particularly increasing extortions, trade union related problems and initiatives taken by the government to recover bad loans. The business community has also warned that all industrial and trading activities will be shut down, if the current pr-oblems are not solved. They have also complained government’s apathy towards their problems.
“The government has fai-led to maintain peace and security,” said Chandi Raj Dha-kal, president of FNCCI, ad-ding that the businessmen are not only terrorised by extortions and donation spree but have also been physically abused. “Industries have been increasingly closed do-wn, whereas fear of capital flight is another serious issue that has emerged in recent months,” he added. The ove-rall business sector has been terrorised and attempts have been made to discredit the businessmen in the name of recovery of bad loans, he complained.
Diwakar Golchha, first vice-president of FNCCI and Surendra Bir Malakar, president of NCC also expressed their views on the occasion.
