‘Provide Rs 150,000 to quake survivors’

Kathmandu, July 3

Lawmakers speaking at today’s Legislature-Parliament meeting drew the attention of the government to distribute a lump sum grant amount of Rs 150,000 to each earthquake survivor family to help them reconstruct their houses destroyed in the April 25 earthquake of last year.

Taking special time from Speaker Onsari Gharti, they also demanded that a separate commission be formed to sort out problems being faced by local people who have been living in various places of Kanchanpur and Kailali for the past 40 years.

Lawmaker Ganesh Singh Thagunna urged the government to distribute relief materials to the victims and launch rescue operation at the earliest in areas of Darchula district ravaged by flooding and landslides.

Similarly, Jayadev Joshi asked the government to provide relief materials to kin of three people killed in different landslides and flooding in Darchula recently. Also, Nara Bahadur Thapa demanded that obstructed roads across country following rains and landslides be repaired at earliest for regular traffic to resume.
