Purvanchal festival in offing

Kathmandu, August 30:

Nepali private sector currently is organising fairs and trade events to promote domestic products both in national and international markets, FNCCI president Chandi Raj Dhakal said informing a media gathering today on Purvanchal Mahotsov-2064 that is scheduled for October 4 to 14 in Itahari.

He said that an emphasis has been laid to promote local products and entrepreneurial activities, thus directly benefiting people at grassroots level.

Dhakal further said that such activities would give an impetus drive to economic activities at local level and uplift the socio-economic condition providing linkage to the markets.

“The FNCCI has been assisting its members in organising such fairs and events,” said Ajad Shrestha, third vice-president at FNCCI, adding that it plans to organise over 20 such events in the various parts of the country this year.

Organised by Itahari Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) in association with the ministry of industry, commerce and supplies and FNCCI, the fair would be one of the largest events that combines various sectors of economy including industry, trade, commerce, tourism and agriculture, said Tanka Prasad Dulal, president of ICCI and coordinator of the event.

The fair is aimed at promoting industrial activities as well as agriculture, tourism, culture and literature of the region, he added. The event will feature different products and services from the region through 190 plus 10 big special stalls. The organisers expect that more than 2,00,000 visitors will throng the event and transactions worth over Rs 50 million will be carried out during the 11-day long fair. Entertainment programmes, sports events and food festivals will add colour to the event, said Dulal.
