KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 15
Newly appointed Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal took office on Monday and immediately formed a three-member task force to prioritize projects for budget implementation.
After taking the oath of office and secrecy at Shital Niwa earlier this morning, Khanal assumed his duties at the Finance Ministry in Singha Durbar. The task force, led by the chief of the Budget Division, will review all projects to ensure only well-prepared and prioritized initiatives are implemented. Fragmented or incomplete projects will not receive funding.
Khanal emphasized reviewing periodic plans to confirm which projects are included in the budget and cutting expenses for non-priority or unprepared projects. "With elections approaching and the need to meet youth demands, some budget adjustments were necessary," he said.
The finance minister also stated that recommendations from the High-Level Economic Reform Commission will be implemented to strengthen fiscal management.
