KATHMANDU, APRIL 2
Remittance inflows to Nepal rose sharply by 37.7 percent to Rs 1,449.65 billion in the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2025/26, according to the latest report by Nepal Rastra Bank.
In the same period last fiscal year, remittances had increased by 9.5 percent.
During the one-month period from mid-February to mid-March (Falgun), remittance inflows stood at Rs 188.64 billion, compared to Rs 151.19 billion in the corresponding period last year.
In US dollar terms, remittances increased by 31 percent to $10.15 billion during the review period, up from a 7.1 percent growth in the same period a year ago.
Net secondary income, which includes remittances, rose to Rs 1,591.66 billion, compared to Rs 1,149.30 billion in the previous year.
Meanwhile, the number of Nepalis taking first-time approval for foreign employment declined to 273,576 from 317,068 in the same period last year. However, approvals for renewed entry increased to 251,985, up from 217,403.
