Syangja, February 3:

The construction of a motorway from Siddhartha highway to Rangbhang VDC via Syangaja district headquarters has been completed.

The two-kilometre long road would be a part of a ring road linking Rangbhang, Jyamire, Kahule, Dandaswara, Bhangjyang, Kaliyathok, Kafaldanda and Pragatinagar VDCs of the district, Buddhiraj Pokharel, informed chairman of users’ group.

Construction of the road in the north and south including Bangkhola, Pragatinagar, Ghumti, Rangkhola and Bayarghari have been completed. The road has decreased dependence of locals on the district headquarters’ market because many markets have sprouted along the new roads. Locals of Pelkachuar-Syangja bazaar are also gearing up to reach the headquarter by building roads to link the southeast parts of the district.

In 2002, the users group set up a road construction committee to provide easy access to transportation in the villages of Syangja bazaar, Dandathar, Khoriya, Hundikot, Barchhe, Pelkachaur and Rangbhang under the leadership of Buddhi Prasad Pokharel.

Construction work was suspended after it reached Hundikot village in 2003. However, it resumed in 2004 and the eight-kilometre stretch of rural road to Deurali has been completed. Construction of the road was completed at the cost of Rs 925,000 and an equal amount of free labour was provided by local people.

The Putalibazaar municipality contributed Rs 380,000 and DDC Syangja provided Rs 130,000. The remaining amount was met from donations by people from Syangja bazaar.
