S Korean job quota in limbo

Kathmandu, September 11:

Due to delay in signing of technical agreement between Nepal and South Korea, the possibility of utilising job quotas allocated for 2007 under recently signed labour accord is getting slimmer.

More than one and half months have been already passed after the signing of MoU between Nepal and South Korea, allowing Nepali workers to work under employment permit system. However, both the governments are yet to ink another crucial pact on the detailed procedure and technical recruitment guidelines.

“We are awaiting Korean response on the draft accord we sent to Seoul,” said Keshar Bahadur Baniya, director general at the department of labour and employment promotion. He admitted that the delay in signing of pact could have a negative impact.
