KATHMANDU, MARCH 31

Special Session of Senior Officials' Meeting (S-SOM) of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) was held virtually on Wednesday.

Delivering his remarks, Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal made an assessment of progress made by the BIMSTEC in implementing the decisions of the Fourth BIMSTEC Summit held in Kathmandu in August 2018.

He also urged to make BIMSTEC an effective organisation through deeper cooperation among the member states for progress and prosperity of the peoples in the BIMSTEC region.

The meeting also held deliberations on preparation for the 17th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting and finalised draft text of joint statement of the ministerial meeting to be held virtually on Thursday.

The meeting was hosted by Sri Lanka, the current chair of the BIMSTEC.
