Kathmandu, August 27

The SAFA International Conference began in Kathmandu today. Organised jointly by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) and Certified Professional Accountants (CPA) Afghanistan, the two-day event aims to define and discuss the role of accountants in economic development and sustainability.

The conference was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education Gopal Man Shrestha amid the presence of more than 200 chartered accountants from South Asia.

Speakers at the inaugural ceremony highlighted the role of accounting in the economic development of the country and stressed on the need for effective accounting from chartered accountants across the globe. They also said that economies cannot develop if there is no mechanism of cost minimisation and this can be effectively done by professional accountants who have acquired this knowledge through cost management accounting.

Chartered accountants from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal are participating in the event.
