Kathmandu, April 23

Small farmers in rural areas will soon be provided mason training to rebuild houses. Sana Kisan Bikas Bank Ltd (SKBBL) today announced a 50-day (300 hours) on-the-job mason training for risk resilient construction of houses for 1,800 small farmers who are clients of the microfinance bank, and their family members in partnership with Balaju School of Engineering and Technology.

SKBBL is providing mason training through Disaster Risk Reduction and Livelihood Restoration of Earthquake Affected Communities (DRRLREAC) Project, under the support of Asian Development Bank (ADB). As per SKBBL, 40 participants have completed the training so far and 360 participants are undergoing the mason training.

SKBBL has said it is planning more technical training programmes in earthquake affected districts on a demand driven basis.

Through DRRLREAC Project, ADB has provided credit of $5.5 million to help revive livelihoods of 12,500 most affected small farmers and a grant of $1.5 million for skills development training to construct earthquake resilient houses and provide technical training to strengthen the operation of cooperatives.
