Skill development key to more employment

KATHMANDU: Most labourers — who go to the Middle East and other countries to work — are unskilled and untrained. Thus, to create awareness about skill enhancing and employment opportunities Direction Nepal has organised the first skill development expo for youth.

“Remittance coming in is far less than what it should be. Providing skill based training opportunities will enhance the generation of remittance,” acfcording to president Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Kush Kumar Joshi.

FNCCI along with the government is providing training to young entrepreneurs to help them acquire skill based jobs. The country is inundated with young people seeking employment opportunities but who are unable to find suitable solutions to train themselves. Every year, a large number of untrained labour goes from the country into the international market, but due to the lack of knowledge and proficiency these workers tend to earn much less than what a trained skilled labourer would.

“We want to train people how to develop skills and reach out to the youth who are in their prime. We also want to support young entrepreneurs and help them develop necessary skills and solutions. That is the main motive

of this expo,” said Anuj Kumar Shrestha, president

of Nepal Youth Entrepreneurs’ Forum. NYEF has also put up a stall at the expo to elucidate problems young entrepreneurs might have regarding their careers.

The expo has around 40 stalls which are showcasing various development and skill acquiring solutions. Options include Montessori training, floriculture, chef and bartending training, spa therapy, visual arts and science training as well as plumbing and welding training.
