Stakeholders stress hygienic meat production, consumption

KATHMANDU: Stakeholders have stressed the need of producing and consuming hygienic meat and meat products.

Speaking at a value chain roundtable meeting organised by the Project for Agriculture Commercialisation and Trade under the Ministry of Agricultural Development in Pokhara on Sunday, the stakeholders said members of the public should be made aware of the hazards to be caused by unhygienic meat products.

The participants of the meeting also suggested that slaughtering of animals in the open should be discouraged.

During the meeting, three papers had been presented by government officials and meat entrepreneurs.

The participants had also discussed the issues around production and marketing, processing and standard criteria of meat and meat products, according to a statement issued by PACT.

Meat producers, processors, consumers and representatives of regulatory bodies were present at the meeting.
