Trek tourism festival to promote site
NAWALPARASI: Locals have organised a three-day Devchuli trekking event here to promote Devchuli, the highest hill in Nawalparasi, as a tourism destination.
Indigenous Magar culture, unique Tharu culture in Nawalpur and wild animals like tiger, elephant, rhino, antelopes and species of birds in the buffer-zone are major tourist attractions.
Locals said the event has been organised with the aim of publicising the religious, historical and archaeological importance of Devchuli. It is the centre of faith of the Tharu people.
Haribhakta Kandel of the Integrated Tourism Development Forum said the trip has been organised to introduce Devchuli as a tourism destination in the district in view of Nepal Tourism Year 2011.
Tourists visiting the place can have breath-taking panoramic views of the Himalayan range, observe the culture of the local Magar community and regale themselves with Kaura and Jhyure dances as well as enjoy jungle safari. People can get mesmerizing views of the sunrise from the hill top besides viewing eye-catching rhododendron flowers in full bloom in forests surrounding the hill.
