VDCs demand 5000 coffee saplings, says agro officer
SAPROS Nepal in coordination with the district development committee and with the cooperation of the Rural Development Programme of GTZ organised one-day coffee farming training programmes at Bhoteodar, Dadipur, Chiti, Heeletaksar and Bhanjhkhet VDCs of Lamjung district recently.
According SAPROS Nepal field coordinator Menu Kumar Shrestha, demand for 5,000 coffee saplings have been received from the VDCS after the training.
Horticulture officer of the district agriculture development office Chandra Man Shrestha said that the farmers have been attracted towards growing coffee as it yields a good income.
About 20,000 coffee saplings are expected to be distributed to the farmers by SAPROS Nepal and the district agriculture development office this year.
Meanwhile the community development centre with the cooperation of Mid-Marsyandi Hydroelectricity Project has launched vegetable production programme in the VDCs affected by the project.
The vegetable production programme is being launched with the objective of meeting the demands for vegetables in the local market, creating job opportunities and improving the living conditions of the local farmers.
The community development centre organised one-day orientation and two-day vegetable production training programmes in all the VDCs affected by the project.
Likewise, the centre organised two-day mushroom production training programme for 13 farmers at the agriculture technical centre and two-day study tours to Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur districts.
The farmers completing the mushroom production training have demanded 150 bottles of mushroom seeds, according to the centre.
