Yak and Yeti to lay off staff

Kathmandu, February 9:

Hotel Yak and Yeti, at a press meet today, has said that it could not come into operations untill it redu-ces operating costs by reducing its permanent sta-ff. The hotel has introdu-ced Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) as a measure to lay off staff.

Surendra Thakuri, spokesperson of the hotel said that employees who are interested to leave the job are offered incentives through VRS. “They can take voluntary retirement till February 28,” he said.

However, hotel employees do not agree with the proposed scheme brought by the management alone. They said that the VRS is brought without their consultation. Chhabi Pandey, president of the Employees Union alleged that the employees are being removed without allowing them to join work, which is a ‘wrong’ practice. “VRS should have been introdu-ced after consulting us,” he said adding that they a-re still in the mood to hold ‘meaningful’ dialogue wi-th the management to pr-oduce amicable solution.
