Budget released for temporary classrooms

DAMAULI: An amount of Rs 20.16 million was released for construction of temporary classrooms in schools of Tanahun after the school buildings suffered damaged due to the deadly earthquake of April 25.

District Education Office Tanahun has released the budget to 305 schools in the district.

Sub-engineer, Shambhu Poudel of DEO said that his office has directed the respective school authorities to construct temporary classrooms and manage the teaching-learning activities in the schools.

It is said that there were 512 community schools in Tanahun and 305 schools were damaged completely in the disaster.

Sources at the DEO said that some of the schools were completely damaged and the daily activities in the schools could not be conducted.

The DEO had distributed Rs 40 million for the physical infrastructure construction in different schools of the district this fiscal.

DEO sources informed that the office has offered some amount to 19 schools for repairs while Rs 2.4 million was offered to five schools for construction of school buildings. Similarly, the DEO has provided Rs 750,000 to seven schools for construction of buildings, while 64 schools received the amount for construction of girls’ toilets and 11 schools received the amount to improve the school environment.

Schools are engaged in the first phase of the physical infrastructure development programme. A number of schools are preparing to begin construction work soon.

DEO said that the released amount would be deposited in the schools’ account.

Rs 90.30 million was allocated for physical infrastructure development in the district last year, DEO informed.
